One or two stands showcasing OLED lighting created quite a stir. OLED (organic, light, emitting, diodes)Â Â create a very different type of light to LED. It is also very slim and can be used in panels to create quite dramatic effects. In the future it been said OLED will replace LCD televisions but at the moment they are VERY expensive and quite small.
No prices were on any of the OLED lighting and we imaginne it will be years before it will be cheap enough - unless you have thousnads to spend on a desk lamp!

One innovation we thought quite clever was oil filled led bulbs. Convetional LED bulbds e.g GU10, Mr16 or even pendant bulbs have large metal “fins” or heatsinks to keep them cool. A new range we will be selling contain oil to keep the leds cool. This also has the effect of spreading the light and making the bulbs look like old incandescent bulbs. They will be available in several bulb types.Watch this space for more news!Â

Ultraleds spent 11th and 12th April at the Frankfurt lighting show. It was a chance to catch up with old suppliers and meet new ones. We were hoping to have loads of pictures to show some of the innovations- but photography was not allowed. Some of the innovations will be posted shortly- although there was so much to see it was amazing. 9 hours per day for 2 days walking barely covered the halls.
One thing we noticed more than anything was the push towards LED lighting. Only two years ago CFL and incandescent bulbs were still popular. In 2010, they are all but gone. Â

Ultraleds have started to supply a well know restaurant chain as part of a lighting refit.
Our 78 led warm white tape (UHD78WW) was used to create ambient lighting effects reflecting off the ceiling and under seating booths. The lighting is fully controllable from begind the bar by dial dimmers.
The restaurant pictured is opposite St Pauls in London.
